After a hectic race that lasted 9000 km the Team Peugeot Total scored a triple in the car category with Peterhansel-Cottret leading home Loeb-Elena and Despres-Castera. Total also clinched a double in the truck category with Eduard Nikolaev and Dmitry Sotnikov in partnership with the Kamaz Master Team.
Cars: A Peugeot Total walkover!
The new 3008DKR proved itself a worthy successor to the 2008DKR, last year’s winner, as it dominated the event with victories in nine of the 12 stages. Frenchman, Sébastien Loeb, was the best performer in the rally with five stage wins, but he was unable to prevent his fellow-countryman, Stéphane Peterhansel from taking the chequered flag in first place after a thrilling duel between the two drivers. It was Peterhansel’s 13th victory
in his career in the event and his second on the bounce with Peugeot Total in the most selective of cross-country rallies. This year the Total Group scored its 12th win in the car category in the Dakar.
Kamaz Master Team’s double in the truck category
The race in the truck category was a real cliff-hanger! Finally, the Kamaz Master Team managed to overcome the bad weather in the second week of the race to get back in the winner’s circle in the Dakar scoring a double with the Kamaz 4326s driven by Russians Eduard Nikolaev and Dmitry Sotnikov. It was the Total Group’s fifth victory in the truck category in the event.
Quad: Casalé on the second step of the podium
Chilean rider Ignacio Casalé, who was out of luck in the last two Dakars after his victory in 2014, was among the front-runners throughout the 2017 race. He won two stages and finished this year’s Dakar in second place on his Yamaha Raptor (Total Chile partnership).
Total products’ added value
The Dakar is the harshest environment the car’s mechanical components will ever have to cope with. In the 2017 race the lubricants Total supplied to its partners contributed to these exceptional results due to their reliability, performance, energetic
efficiency and reduction in fuel consumption. Once these technological solutions have been validated in extreme conditions they are incorporated into our ranges to help ordinary motorists all over the world.
